The Shadow Assassin is a Mini-Boss in The Catacombs that appears from The Catacombs - Floor III onward.

Spawning

Shadow Assassins spawn as Mini-Bosses in The Catacombs on Floor III and above. Their health and damage scales by their floor and dungeon progress; if spawned in a yellow room, it is significantly buffed.

Storm Boss Fight

A total of 4 [Lv171] Shadow Assassins spawn in each corner of the arena during the 2nd phase of Storm's fight.

Behavior

The Shadow Assassin can teleport and is extremely agile. It has the highest melee damage of any mini-boss and does additional damage when attacking from behind. However, it does not have a healing ability. It is invisible until a player is nearby, upon which it will teleport to the player and become visible. It runs towards the player, occasionally teleporting behind them, and tries to hit them, dealing Damage.

Storm fight

The Shadow Assassins protect the four control pads for the crushers at the four corners of the room. Storm will try to protect them, attacking any player who attacks them.

Trivia

Shadow Assassins could have been Livid's shadows that Livid's dialogue mentioned upon his defeat.
- This is further suggested since they have an emblem on their body very similar to the emblem in Livid's room.
The Dungeon Journal Grim Adversity suggests that the narrator failed to protect someone of the name Albert from a Shadow Assassin.
In Master Mode, Shadow Assassins can spawn an upwards of 370M health in Master Mode - Floor VII.
When summoned using the Necromancy mechanic, Shadow Assassins appear to be floating iron swords.
The Beating Heart drop is bugged and cannot drop from a Shadow Assassin.
If a player is standing in front of a wall which has a space behind the wall, Shadow Assassins will teleport through the wall. When the wall is next to the void, they will die.
The Ice Spray Wand, Gyrokinetic Wand and Fire Freeze Staff can lock Shadow Assassins in place, which can be used to dispatch of them very quickly. However, this does not stop them from teleporting.
