The Wither King
The Wither King is the FINAL-BOSS of The Master Catacombs - Floor VII.
Boss Fight
[edit | edit source]The bottom of Master Mode Floor VII contains a giant throne room. There are five relics placed next to dragon statues around the room. There are also five cauldrons in front of the throne near the center of the room. They each have a specifically colored clay below them. The players must bring and place the relics with the same corresponding color as the cauldron's block of clay, otherwise the players fail the run. After placing the relics, The Wither King will be summoned on his throne.
Damage cannot be dealt towards The Wither King, and he mostly acts as a spectator to the battle. The Wither King will spawn one of five dragons, named Apex Dragon, Flame Dragon, Ice Dragon, Power Dragon and Soul Dragon, every 30 seconds. All five dragons must be killed near their corresponding colored dragon statue to destroy them. All dragons can respawn at any time indefinitely until all dragon statues are destroyed. If all five statues are destroyed, the floor is completed.
If all five dragons are alive at any time, the Wither King will send the players into the air in the center of a ritual. The dragons will complete the ritual and summon a giant hand coming up through the floor, grabbing and closing around the players, causing them to fail the dungeon run.
Attacks
[edit | edit source]- The Wither King will pull the player towards them, instantly killing the player, if the player gets close to the Wither King.
- The Wither King will create a beam that moves around the throne room, dealing Damage to players on contact.
- The Wither King will strike players with lightning, dealing Damage.

Lore
[edit | edit source]- Kaeman was a top student at the Mage Academy. After his studies, he became a researcher in the field of advanced magic. One day, a farmhand, Sarah, had been hurt while in the fields, and Kaeman was charged with healing her. They fell in love. They soon started living together and Kaeman's priorities shifted, he devoted less time to research and more to family, while still an active mage. Not long after, they had a child, Mylah.
- Out of nowhere, Jythar, the Dragon Emperor launched an attack on the human realm with his entire dragon army. Kaeman and other mages made their way to defend the castle. Mages laid a trap atop the mountain, which when Jythar landed on, would crush him with the immense force of gravity, and he fell right into it. Other dragons shielded their emperor with their lives, though many of them died. Against all odds, Jythar rose to his feet, he used the Fel Magic - the magic of the dead. In a final act of vengeance, he decimated the earth itself using magic so powerful that it created a hole in space on the mountain's peak and another dimension. Jythar laid waste to all in his path, sparing not even his dragons. In the end, the previously connected realm was separated into islands, and Jythar's corpse fell to an area now known as Dragontail.
- As the Emperor fell, Kaeman's mind raced to his loved ones, but unfortunately, he was too late. Grieving, a thought crossed his mind: if Jythar could use magic to cheat death for vengeance, maybe he could use the same magic to revive his family. Jythar's heart, the core of the Fel Magic, was placed on an island to not cause any trouble. However, it corrupted the island and from it came new fauna. Kaeman set up a laboratory on this island, The End.
- He began researching Fel Magic to try and bring them back to life. After seven years, he tried the spell for the first time, which reanimated them, but they weren't themselves. After three more years of research, during which Kaeman started venturing further from his laboratory, castle's routine inspection discovered the facility, stole the scrolls, killed Sarah and Mylah and destroyed what was left of the lab. After this loss, Kaeman sought vengeance casting a spell and willing to give his life for it so he could be reunited with his family. That's when he understood the essence of Fel magic, power of sacrifice. After giving up his life, he has gained more power than ever before. This spell also merged him with the remains of his family, with Mylah's head on his left and Sarah's on his right. Fueled by burning anger, he charged towards the castle, a decade after the Calamity, determined to unleash upon them a terror greater than they had ever known. After this destruction, Kaeman was defeated by mages and imprisoned at the edge of the main island.
- Years later, someone stole Kaeman's scrolls from Mages and given it to a young not very successful mage student - Necron. He has learned this spell and used it to help Kaeman free himself, leading to a disturbance that affected even the Rift Dimension, and created the Broken Cage area there. Kaeman then took Necron to the Catacombs.
- After Necron brought Lathrop with him to The Catacombs, Kaeman brought him in front of the the Seeing-Stone, which triggered visions in Lathrop was followed his entire life that were somehow connected to the Breach above the Mountain. Over the next few months, Lathrop spent several hours a day looking at the Seeing-Stone, increasing his control over his visions and allowing him to see into the Kaeman's past and becoming
The Watcher. The Watcher was then tasked to reshape the Seeing-Stone for another purpose, so he studied the Wither King's past deeper and, using the orb, he created a world identical to the one Kaeman used to know. The Wither King then spent days in this realm and said he has no need for Watcher anymore, charging him to be loyal to Necron who has taken over the Catacombs since.
Trivia
[edit | edit source]- The Wither King's real name is Kaeman, confirmed by himself during his conversation with Necron in the Journal Entry - The Apprentice 3.
- The tentacles coming out of The Wither King's body could be based off of the Wither Storm from Minecraft: Story Mode.
- The Piglin Sirih mentions the Wither King's original life.
- This is confirmed in the Journal Memories.
- When The Wither King is summoned, he has an obfuscated name.
- It’s implied by the line “You did what I couldn’t do myself” after death that The Wither King had attempted to take his own life, but failed likely due to his own power not being enough to kill him.
