Flare

Flare is a Blaze type Mob that spawns in the  Magma Chamber on the Crimson Isle.

Spawning

Flares spawn on 12 different stone pillars which surround the  Magma Chamber platform. They all respawn in intervals of around 10 seconds and only one can spawn on each pillar at a time.

Flare can also be Charmed or put in a Black Hole to obtain Flare Shard and +500 Hunting XP. The amount of Attribute Shards dropped is affected by Hunting Fortune.

Behavior

Flares are three Blaze mobs stacked on top of each other with each blaze sharing the same Health pool of 5,000,000 with each other. They act as sentries shooting high damage fireballs. However, they do not take knockback, move, or face the player making them easy targets from a distance. Their range of attack is also considered poor for a sentry-like mob, typically anyone standing around the Magma Chamber (for example while fighting the Magma Boss) will never be targeted by them. Anyone approaching the area through the stairs may get targeted, though.

If a flare misses its attack, it will not be able to throw another fireball for a while, rendering it vulnerable for follow-up attacks by the player as they have no melee attacks. Caution should be taken when flares are respawning as they attack immediately on sight.

Trivia

A zombie can sometimes be seen which the blazes are riding on. These zombies are normally supposed to be invisible and possibly responsible for keeping the blazes in place and not float up.
The soul of Flares can be captured using Necromancy items, which is odd as normally souls of blaze mobs are not able to be absorbed. However, it will neither spawn when used or even use any mana despite showing its stats when inspecting it. It is likely that it is trying to summon the aforementioned invisible zombie which has no stats, which would also explain why it was able to drop a soul in the first place.
Due to them being three mobs stacked on top of each other, AOE damage can potentially kill flares in one hit.
Despite being a Blaze-type mob, killing them does not contribute to spawning the Inferno Demonlord slayer boss, or increasing the counter on the Vanquished Blaze Belt.
Flares are considered one of the best mobs when grinding for Vanquishers, as Flares spawn at fixed locations and don't move.
Similarly, Flares are considered the best mobs to gain a top score in Spooky Festival, although they favor dropping more Green Candies, in which case Ghosts are ideal to gain Purple Candies instead.

Bugs

If a Gauntlet of Contagion is used, killing a Flare will count as three kills.
