The Dark Claymore closely resembles the Giant's Sword: however, it trades the Giant's Slam ability for increased Strength, Crit Damage, and Swing Range.
The text in Dark Claymore's tooltip is likely a reference to the Dragon Slayer from Berserk, described as "too big to be called a sword... Massive, thick, heavy, and far too rough. Indeed, it was like a heap of raw iron."
The Dark Claymore was both the first item to have the stat Swing Range as well as the first Longsword.
The usage requirement used to be bugged, only requiring a Floor VII completion.
The term Claymore refers to either the Scottish variant of a longsword or the Scottish variant of basket-hilted swords, the latter of which is sometimes also known as a broadsword.
The Dark Claymore is one of two items other than Master Stars and Master Skulls that are exclusive to Master Mode, the other being the Spirit Mask.
