The Mutant Tarantula is a Mini-Boss which spawns very rarely when a player doing the Tarantula Broodfather Tier IV quest kills a spider.

Mutant Tarantulas spawn rarely during Tarantula Broodfather Tier IV quests when the player kills a Spider-type mob. When this happens, an explosion effect takes place and the Mutant Tarantula spawns.

The Mutant Tarantula has 576k. It seeks out and attacks the nearest player, preferring the player who spawned it.

It moves more slowly than its cousin the Tarantula Beast. However, it is far more deadly, dealing 5,000 damage per hit - enough to kill players wearing maxed out Tarantula Armor within 5 hits.

• A particular strategy to beating this miniboss is to gain lower ground; standing on a ledge 2 blocks beneath the miniboss, will generally make it land no hits against the player, and with virtually any decent late game sword, such as a  Scorpion Foil, one can take down a Mutant Tarantula.
• Players can also lure the miniboss to a place far enough for the AI of the miniboss to stop working. This will make the miniboss not be aggravated and one can easily kill it down with no risk.
