Ender Dragons are 7 different variants of Boss summoned with Summoning Eyes in the Dragon's Nest. They drop powerful loot including Dragon Armors and Dragon Fragments when killed.

The Ender Dragon has 7 variants: Protector, Wise, Unstable, Superior, Strong, Young and Old.

Mechanics

[edit | edit source]

Summoning

[edit | edit source]

The Ender Dragon is summoned with Summoning Eye 8 Summoning Eyes. These eyes must be placed in the altar in the center of the nest. After all 8 are placed, the dragon is summoned and the fight will begin. This is similar to the summoning of Arachne with Arachne's Callings.

Variants

[edit | edit source]

The Ender Dragon will spawn as one of seven variants. The dragon's variant affects the its health, behavior, drops, and attacks.

The Dragon Fight

[edit | edit source]

After 8 Summoning Eyes have been placed, there will be a brief period before the dragon will hatch from an egg in the sky, knocking all players a large distance away from the Dragon Altar at the center of the Dragon's Nest. After the dragon has spawned, the dragon variant will be announced in the chat.

The door to the Dragon's Nest will shut, the gaps at the top will be covered with glass and 5 Ender Crystals will spawn around the nest on top of obsidian spikes.

Additionally, Gregory the Opportunist will spawn near the Dragon's Gate. He will sell a Decent Bow as well as Arrows at a higher price than the Weaponsmith in town.

Ender Crystals

[edit | edit source]

At the start of a Dragon Fight, 5 Ender Crystals will spawn in 5 of 10 locations. Ender Crystals must be destroyed, as they cause the dragon to heal +0.3% Health per second if they are actively healing the dragon. Every tick, there is a 10% chance for the crystals' connections to the dragon to be refreshed. If the dragon is within 32 blocks of any crystal, the crystal begins to heal it. Destroying a crystal rewards its destroyer with Crystal Fragment 1 Crystal Fragment and 1,000 Dragon Damage contributed. Destroyed crystals will respawn after 1-2 minutes, and can only respawn 3 times.

Attacks

[edit | edit source]

The dragon has three attacks, which all deal True Damage. When under 50% Health, they deal 50% more damage.

  1. Rush - The dragon will charge a player, inflicting 2,000 Damage, 550 True Damage, and Knockback.
  2. Fireball - The dragon will fly to a point in the arena, stop in place, then fire a barrage of fireballs at players. These fireballs explode and can damage multiple players at once. They will deal 1,700 Damage, 200 True Damage, and knock players high up into the air.
  3. Lightning - The dragon will briefly stop in place, summoning lightning around it and creating audible thunder sounds. After a brief period, it will summon lightning and smite players from above, dealing 1,700 Damage and 200 True Damage. This attack can be avoided if the player has a block above their head.

If the player comes into contact with the dragon, they will receive 50% of their Health + 2,000 in Damage.

After some time has passed, the dragon will summon groups of Zealots. These Zealots are immediately hostile, even if the player has not damaged or looked at them. The Dragon also makes already existing Zealots hostile.

When players are killed, they must make their way down to the Dragon's Nest again, and break down the sealed door. The door has lots of health, can be attacked with both ranged and melee attacks and will open again when its health bar is depleted. Both endermites and endermen spawn as the door takes damage. This can be avoided by using a horse pet to glitch in or using the Dragon's Nest Travel Scroll.

After the Ender Dragon is defeated, Gregory will depart and hostile mobs will not spawn in the Dragon's Nest for a brief amount of time. All existing mobs within the Nest, including Voidgloom Seraph and Necromancy mobs, will instantly despawn. During this time, dragons cannot be summoned. After this brief time has passed, a message in the chat will announce the respawning of the Dragon Egg, after which mobs will spawn as normal and players are able to summon another dragon.

Strategies

[edit | edit source]

Drops

[edit | edit source]

Each player that damages the Ender Dragon will receive individual loot, including Ender Pearls and Enchanted Ender Pearls. Loot received is governed by Loot Quality (commonly incorrectly referred to as "Weight" by players), which determines a player's eligibility for major loot. Note that achieving a quality requirement does not guarantee the respective drop.

Total Loot Quality is calculated using this formula: Quality=BaseQuality+100(SummoningEyesPlaced)+100(PlayerDamageDealtFirstPlaceDamageDealt)

Base Loot Quality is determined in the following manner:

Condition Quality
Placing Summoning Eyes +100 Loot Quality per eye placed (up to 800 quality from 8 eyes)
Dealing Damage 100 x (Player's Damage ÷ First Place Player's Damage) Loot Quality
1st in Damage Dealt +300 Loot Quality
2nd in Damage Dealt +250 Loot Quality
3rd in Damage Dealt +200 Loot Quality
4th in Damage Dealt +125 Loot Quality
5th in Damage Dealt +110 Loot Quality
6-8th in Damage Dealt +100 Loot Quality
9-10th in Damage Dealt +90 Loot Quality
11-12th in Damage Dealt +80 Loot Quality
13-25th in Damage Dealt +70 Loot Quality

More than 1 Damage dealt

+70 Loot Quality

Less than 1 Damage dealt

+10 Loot Quality

The player can obtain certain drops based off their total Loot Quality. After receiving a major drop, the player's Loot Quality is recalculated: Quality=QualityDropQuality, and the player will not be able to receive any other pieces of major loot. After all possible pieces of major loot are rolled, the remaining quality is converted to Dragon Fragments, Enchanted Ender Pearls, and Ender Pearls, in the order of highest quality requirement to lowest. Drops are affected by Magic Find and Pet Luck.

Trivia

[edit | edit source]
  • Similar to other bosses, players will see their ranking for how much damage they dealt to the boss.
  • The Ender Dragon was the second Boss added to the game.
  • There is currently a bug in which in certain lobbies, summoned dragons will disappear after a player hits it with the Aspect of the Dragons ability. The boss bar and Gregory is still present, but the dragon itself is missing. Ender Crystals still spawn around a minute after the disappearance, and it stays like that until the lobby resets.
  • Ender Crystals will stop spawning after a few minutes if the Ender Dragon still has not been killed.
  • When a Dragon is defeated, mobs, including Voidgloom Seraphs, in the lower areas of the Void Sepulture (between layers 10 and 26) will also despawn.
  • The Old Dragon has the 6th highest health of all non-dungeon mobs, at 15M. This is second to the Arachne tier 2 (20M), Minos Inquisitor (40M), Voidgloom Seraph tier 3 (50M) and 4 (210M) and Kalhuiki Tribe Member (1B).
  • Holy Dragons do not exist, even though Holy Dragon Armor, Holy Fragments, and Holy Lost Adventurers do.
  • Player and streamer Sarite has killed the most dragons in the game totaling over 50,000 dragon kills as of 12/7/2022. However, Dragon kills were not counted unless you got the final blow until the bestiary update.
  • According to the major loot table, a player can place four Summoning Eyes and deal more than one damage to cover the quality requirements to get any major loot drop.
