A Stoneworm is a Mob that can spawn when mining  Hard Stone inside the Crystal Hollows.

A Stoneworm or Scatha has a 0.167% (1 in 600) chance of spawning when breaking  Hard Stone in a tunnel within the Crystal Hollows. There is a 30s cooldown every time a Stoneworm or Scatha spawns. A Stoneworm has an 80% (4 in 5) chance of being spawned, while a Scatha has a 20% (1 in 5) chance of being spawned instead.

While spawning, Stoneworms and Scathas make a unique squelching sound 3 times, alerting players of their presence. Additionally, the following message appears in chat:

Stoneworms can also be Charmed to obtain  Stoneworm Shard and +300  Hunting XP. The amount of Attribute Shards dropped is affected by  Hunting Fortune.

A Stoneworm slowly slithers through the tunnel it spawned in, turning back if it hits a block or gets too far away. It has 5  Health. They start off with a chain of 5 segments, which decrease by one each time they are hit until killed. Each hit deals 1 of damage to the Stoneworm.

If no blocks are present under the Stoneworm when it moves, it will float through the air. It does not go up or down and stays at the Y level it spawned at.

• While  Mining Spread does not directly prevent the player from spawning Stoneworms and Scathas, it may reduce the chances depending on how the player mines.
  • Generally, it is recommended to turn off all sources of  Mining Spread while digging a tunnel forwards, and then mine the ceiling or wall of the tunnel backwards with  Mining Spread enabled to maximize spawn chances.

• Stoneworms and Scathas are unaffected by Mayor Derpy's DOUBLE MOBS HP!!! perk.
