Hard Stone can be obtained by mining Stone blocks in the Crystal Hollows, Glacite Tunnels, or Glacite Mineshafts (or or Cyan Hardened Clay blocks in the Crystal Hollows) using a Pickaxe, Gauntlet, or Drill with a Breaking Power of at least 4.

The Cyan Hardened Clay variant only appears in the Crystal Hollows. In other areas, it is Mithril instead.
