The Matriarch

The Matriarch is a mob that can be interacted with to access the  Belly of the Beast, where Heavy Pearls can be obtained. It is located in the  Matriarch's Lair.

Behavior

The Matriarch generates Heavy Pearls, generating 3 every 24h. If The Matriarch has 1 or more Heavy Pearls available, it will attempt to pull the player towards it and eat them. The player will then be transported to the  Belly of the Beast.

While in the  Belly of the Beast, the player's stats are set to their default values and all effects are disabled. The player will be able to collect Heavy Pearls by hitting the piles of them located around the area 3 times. Each pile grants 1 Heavy Pearl, and the player will be able to collect the amount of Heavy Pearls that are available. At the same time, stomach acid will rise in the room, dealing heavy damage if the player touches it.

The player can escape the  Belly of the Beast by punching the tonsils, represented by towers of pigs, hanging from the top of the area. If the player dies to The Matriarch, there will be a 10 minute cooldown before they can be eaten again. If all Heavy Pearls have been obtained from The Matriarch, and the cooldown is over, the player can re-enter the  Belly of the Beast.

Matriarch's Perfume can be used to make The Matriarch instantly produce 3 Heavy Pearls; it can be used up to 4 times per day. Additionally, the Matriarch Cubs attribute grants, at its maximum level, a +20% chance to gain an additional Heavy Pearl when collecting one, meaning it is possible to get up to 6 Heavy Pearls (the average amount being 3.8 Heavy Pearls).

Tips

You can find the Heavy Pearls' location while being eaten by The Matriarch, to set up the route for getting the Heavy Pearls. You should try to aim for one of the Heavy Pearls, and grab it as soon as the tentacles release you (similar to Storm boss fight's prefire). Also, when you find the pigs after getting all the pearls needed, spam hitting them to get up before the acid gets up.
While wearing Diver's Armor, it is possible to use it's ability inside The Matriarch to move around using the 'stomach acid'.
While wearing Unstable Dragon Armor, when trying to escape using the pigs, it has a chance to strike lightning onto all of the pigs at once and lifting you out of The Matriarch without even hitting a pig once.
While using the Flaming Fist, only one hit is needed to collect a heavy pearl, and only one hit is needed on a tonsil to escape. This may be used as a method to speedrun The Matriarch.
Unlike many other systems in the game which reset daily at 12AM ET, the cooldown for The Matriarch instead resets daily at 8PM ET.

Trivia

The Matriarch contains a Boba Fett helmet within the digestive fluid on the floor, likely referencing his fall into the Great Pit of Carkoon in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi.
Collecting all 3 Heavy Pearls in the Matriarch without taking damage rewards the The Perfect Heist achievement.
