The Crystal Hollows is a location that is focused on
Mining. The primary focuses of the Crystal Hollows are mining Gemstones and collecting Gemstone Crystals to complete the Crystal Nucleus.
Tasks
When the player first enters Crystal Hollows, they will be greeted with the following message:
Overview
[edit | edit source]The Crystal Hollows consists of a large series of tunnels made of
Hard Stone, with veins of Gemstones and randomly-generated structures scattered throughout the caves. The tunnels themselves remain the same across lobbies, but the locations of structures will always be different across different servers. At the center of the Crystal Hollows houses the Crystal Nucleus, where Gemstone Crystals can be placed.
Talking to
Gwendolyn allows you to purchase a pass to the Crystal Hollows for 6h for 10,000 Coins: you gain permanent, unrestricted access to the Crystal Hollows after helping
Dulin.
Mining
[edit | edit source]While inside the Crystal Hollows, broken ores and blocks are not replaced with bedrock. Instead, they will physically be broken be replaced with air, similar to vanilla Minecraft. Blocks can be broken everywhere except the Crystal Nucleus and in specific structures:
Torches,
Ladders,
Hard Stone, and
Cobblestone can also be placed.
Stone is replaced by
Hard Stone inside the Crystal Hollows, which has a higher Breaking Power and a unique Collection. Gemstones,
Mithril, and most Ores can spawn inside the Crystal Hollows. Ores that require a Furnace to be smelted into an ingot, such as
Iron Ore and
Gold Ore, do not require Smelting Touch or a Furnace to be converted to an ingot.
Yields from most vanilla ores are increased within the Crystal Hollows.

Locations
[edit | edit source]There are 5 main locations in the Crystal Hollows, being the Jungle, Mithril Deposits, Precursor Remnants, Goblin Holdout, and Magma Fields. These correspond to their respective Gemstone, that being
Amethyst,
Jade,
Sapphire,
Amber, and
Topaz.
Ruby can also be found in the Crystal Hollows and can be found everywhere. Additionally, 3 Fairy Grottos spawn in random locations throughout the Crystal Hollows:
Jasper can be mined there.
Each primary location has a sub-location, where its respective Gemstone Crystal can be obtained.
- The Jungle contains the Jungle Temple, where a
Jungle Key must be given to access a series of parkour with the
Amethyst Crystal at the end; - The Mithril Deposits contains the Mines of Divan, where a
Metal Detector must be used to find and return Scavenged Items, with the
Jade Crystal being rewarded at the end; - The Precursor Remnants contains the Lost Precursor City, where all 6 Automaton Parts or a
Precursor Apparatus must be given to access the
Sapphire Crystal; - The Goblin Holdout contains the Goblin Queen's Den, where any variant of Goblin Egg must be given to
King Yolkar the
Amber Crystal without being caught; - The Magma Fields contains Khazad-dûm, where
Bal must be defeated to claim the
Topaz Crystal.
Gemstone Crystals can be placed in the Crystal Nucleus to or used to forge Perfect Gemstones. You can see the status of Gemstone Crystals in the tablist: a Crystal can either be Not Found, Not Placed, or Placed. A Gemstone Crystal must be found but Not Placed to be used in the Forge to forge an its respective Perfect Gemstone.
Treasure and Loot Chests
[edit | edit source]Upon mining blocks, there is a small chance to spawn a treasure chest, containing various rewards. These chests can spawn anywhere except near the bedrock wall. The player must aim at the critical particles on the face of the chests 5 times in a row in order to open a chest. These treasure chests spawned from mining will only last for around 1 minute before disappearing.
As a tip for those struggling with treasure chest lockpicking, you need to aim one or two block pixels above where the particles are spawning in order to hit the targets. If you have game sounds enabled you will hear a small ping to indicate you have hit the target and can move on to the next one.
Loot chests on the other hand can spawn in set locations within structures; these chests can be opened directly with a small time delay and contain about twice the gemstones and powder of what a treasure chest gives on average.
The loot within such a certain structure chest is always the same for all players who open it within that Crystal Hollows instance. However, the amount of Gemstone Powder within each slot of the chest varies between players.[1] Chests from mining do not share this property.
Treasure and Loot chests will only contain the loot found within the area. For example, Magma Fields chests might contain
Yoggie,
Topaz or
Ruby.
Treasure and Loot chests have a 5% chance to be a rare loot chest, which can contain better drops. If the chest is not a rare loot chest, it will contain common loot.
The Crystal Serendipity attribute grants, at max level, a +10% chance to double rewards from a Treasure Chest. When this activates, the following message displays:
The possible loot is listed below, as well as the chance of the item being rolled as a drop from chests. 3-6 drops are rolled per chest; Bigger Box grants +50% chance to find an additional item in chest, which can be increased to 65% with Echo of Boxes and Echo of Echoes attributes.
Possible Loot
[edit | edit source]Structures
[edit | edit source]Each part of the Crystal Hollows has its own main special location, excluding Magma Fields, which will almost always generate in every lobby:
- The Jungle Temple generated in the Jungle
- The Mines of Divan generated in the Mithril Deposits
- The Goblin Queen's Den generated in the Goblin Holdout
- The Lost Precursor City generated in the Precursor Remnants
- 3 Fairy Grottos generated anywhere within the Crystal Hollows
Each of these structures house their respective Crystal. A special task must be completed to obtain the Crystal.
Khazad-dûm is the one location that can spawn in any part of the Crystal Hollows, making it harder to find.
There are also smaller structures which generate in random locations. Examples include:
- A structure which resembles the Deep Caverns, including the lift and the layered structure of the original Deep Caverns island
- A dragon skull from the Spider's Den
- A replica of the Dark Auction
- A miniature version of The Forge including a working forge NPC
- A copy of the pre-Hub overhaul Tavern
A full list of Structures can be found at Crystal Hollows/Special Locations.
Certain structures contain loot chests. Loot chests always generate in the same positions within the structures, similar to Dungeon Secrets. Loot Chests also generate the same items for every player, meaning if a player finds a chest with good loot such as a lot of Gemstone Powder or a Blue Goblin Egg, they can send the coordinates to chat to lead others to the chest.

Trivia
[edit | edit source]- The Crystal Hollows are internally referred to as the Greater Mines in the SkyBlock API.
- The Crystal Hollows are the only place
Dirt,
Andesite,
Diorite, and
Granite (and other blocks) can be mined, however, only
Dirt drops itself and all others drop
Hard Stone instead. - Ores within a few blocks of the
Bedrock border may not get auto-smelted without Smelting Touch. - Attempting to get into the Crystal Hollows using an
Ender Pearl will result in the player being teleported out with the following message, even if they do have a valid Crystal Hollows Pass:
- You have been teleported out of the Crystal Hollows because you did not have a valid pass!
- You can stay in Crystal Hollows for at least 21 in-game days. The lobby will close and become inaccessible on the 19th day. However, if there are four or more people in the lobby, you can stay up to 35 in-game days at most (depending on luck).
- A player cannot claim rewards from the same loot chest on multiple profiles.
- If 2 loot chests are spawned next to each other it will create a double chest. However, it will still act as 2 separate chests.
