The Critter Safari is a Hunting Location accessible from the Torrhus Canyon. It can be accessed by speaking to the
Safari Manager using Safari Tickets after reaching
Hunting XV (15), which are obtained from
Miria's Starlyn Contests.
Accessing
[edit | edit source]The Critter Safari can be accessed from the
Safari Manager using
Safari Tickets. These come in multiple varieties, obtained from Miria's Contests.
- Basic Safari Ticket: Unlocks the Basic Safari Experience. The player starts with
32 Critter Capsules. - Economy Safari Ticket: Unlocks the Economy Safari Experience. The player starts with
40 Critter Capsules and gains +10%
Safari Essence and +5 Hunting Wisdom. - Premium Safari Ticket: Unlocks the Premium Safari Experience. The player starts with
48 Critter Capsules and gains +25%
Safari Essence and +15 Hunting Wisdom. - First-Class Safari Ticket: Unlocks the First-Class Safari Experience. The player starts with
56 Critter Capsules, gains +50%
Safari Essence, +25 Hunting Wisdom, and gains a random Quest Item upon entering the Critter Safari.
Higher tiers of Safari Tickets are obtained from reaching higher brackets in Miria's Contest.
When the player runs out of
Critter Capsules, they are given the option to leave the Critter Safari.
Biomes
[edit | edit source]The Critter Safari is split into 4 biomes: the Cavern, Forest, Haunted, and Icy biomes. Each biome has a their own sets of Critters, Floor Drops, and mechanics.
Floor Drops can be found on the ground, marked by
String on the ground, similar to how the player can uncover
Fig Logs,
Mangrove Logs, and
Mudworm Shards on the Moonglade Marsh. They will grant either
Safari Essence,
Hunting experience, a shard, or a random Quest Item, which can be used throughout the Critter Safari to interact with the map.
Cavern
[edit | edit source]The Cavern biome consists of a large cavern system that stretches into the bowels of the map, with large veins of
Raw Gold, carts full of ores, and mining platforms.
The following Critters can be hunted here:
Cavernfish,
Flitter,
Shyworm,
Driftling,
Chuckwalla,
Rockmite,
Scrappy,
Snoozle, and
Gemzie.
Forest
[edit | edit source]The Forest biome consists of a sprawling network of trees and a small underground cave system.
The following Critters can be hunted here:
Foxtrot,
Bluebird,
Honeybug,
Treefrog,
Woodchucker,
Fluffling,
Hideonfloor,
Parakeet, and
Macaw.
The Forest also contains the Birdfeeder, which allows players to summon the
Bluebird,
Parakeet, or
Macaw using foods found from Floor Drops found throughout the Forest biome. Different foods buff different bird chances.
The Birdfeeder can be found at X: -1, Y: 90, Z: 44.
Haunted
[edit | edit source]The Haunted biome consists of a large haunted castle and a small underground cave to spawn the
Doomspiral.
The following Critters can be hunted here:
Areita,
Bloodbat,
Duplico,
Gazer,
Litterbug,
Solsnatcher,
Gimmiegold,
Hideonwall,
Hideyho, and
Doomspiral.
Icy
[edit | edit source]The Icy biome features the same Cold mechanic from the Glacite Tunnels. This can be decreased while near campfires. Cold Resistance applies in the Icy biome, and being in water will cause Cold to increment faster.
The following Critters can be hunted here:
Strongarm,
Tepid,
Polaris,
Shuddersquid,
Billygoat,
Mantis Shrimp,
Nozzlenose,
Troodon, and
Wumpa.
Critters
[edit | edit source]37 Critters are native to the Critter Safari, with 9 Critters each being found in 3 out of the 4 biomes and 10 Critters being found in the Haunted biome. They can only be hunted with
Critter Capsules, which are thrown at Critters. Regular Hunting Tools, such as Huntaxes, Black Holes, Lassos, and Fishing Nets are disabled in the Critter Safari: if the player ever finds a way to have a Hunting Tool in their inventory, it will be automatically sent to the Stash.
The higher the rarity of the Shard dropped by the player's desired Critter, the lower the chance to successfully capture the Critter. If a critter is caught, every player in the Critter Safari receives the shard and progress towards Safari Milestones, but not the Critterdex.
Each Critter has a Uniqueness Score, granting +5,000
Hunting XP for each Critter caught, up to +185,000
Hunting XP without Floor Drops or Hunting Wisdom being factored in.
Charm Chance does not affect the Critter Safari.
Sparkling Critters
[edit | edit source]Sparkling Critters have a 1/4,096 chance to replace any Critter in the Critter Safari. Sparkling Critters are telegraphed with orange particles and a SPARKLING tag in their name, alongside wind chimes playing when nearby.
Sparkling Critters drop 10x their regular drops, alongside a
Rainbow Feather. Upgrading the Splendor attribute through syphoning the
Macaw Shard grants a +2.5-25% chance to obtain an extra
Rainbow Feather from Sparkling Critters and can be triggered through Loot Share. Additionally, Sparkling Critters also have a 100x chance to drop an
Emerald Dye.
Capturing a Sparkling Critter yields the following dialogue:
Catching Sparkling Critters contributes to the Sparkling Critterdex, which is unlocked after completing the Critterdex and grants cosmetic rewards as an optional grind. The Sparkling Critterdex does not grant SkyBlock XP. Unlike the normal Critterdex, captures will unlock the Sparkling Critterdex entry for all players in the lobby.
The chances of spawning Sparkling Critters can be increased by 2x with a
Sparkling Amulet: the player will spawn with one equipped if they have the Sparkling Specialist perk active, which can be purchased from
Archie for
10,000 Safari Essence. The bonus of the
Sparkling Amulet does not stack.

Quest Items
[edit | edit source]Quest Items are SPECIAL items found around the Critter Safari that are used to interact with the environment, usually leading to exclusive Shards that the player otherwise would not be able to access.
Floor Drops
[edit | edit source]A limited number of Floor Drops will appear throughout the different biomes in the Critter Safari: they do not respawn. Floor Drops may contain Quest Items,
Safari Essence,
Hunting XP, or a Shard.
For more information on each Quest Item, view their respective articles.

Hunting Hotspot
[edit | edit source]If the player has the Hunting Hotspot perk unlocked at
Archie, a random biome will be selected as the player's Hunting Hotspot. While in a Hunting Hotspot, the player gains +5-25 Hunting Fortune.
Bells
[edit | edit source]There are 7
Bells scattered around the Critter Safari at different locations. Upon finding all 7
Bells and returning to
"Hunter" Tobias, a cutscene begins to play. For the sake of spoilers, the following section will be hidden.
-68, 66, -43: A
Bell is hidden on the bottom of an ice platform near the entrance to the Icy biome. Jumping on the platform repeatedly will cause it to flip over, yielding the What the flip?! secret achievement. The bell will be too cold to ring, requiring an
Icebreaker to break it.
-96, 46, -57: A
Bell is hidden behind a bed found in an underground cavern in the underwater lake in the Icy biome.
-4, 96, -42: A
Bell is hidden on the roof of the mansion in the Haunted biome. It can be accessed from parkour from the bottom of the mansion, or from climbing to the top of the Icy biome and jumping into the roof.
47, 55, -7: A
Bell is hidden at the edge of the Critter Safari, near the Haunted biome. The ledge can be exited safely by ascending from the vine at
16, 53, 79.
-30, 125, 59: A
Bell is hidden near the top of the Forest biome, requiring parkour across a large tree to a floating island.
-90, 109, 16: A
Bell is hidden at the top of the Cavern biome: you will need to climb from a fake cactus onto a large stack from
-138, 102, 26, parkour across a tree, and make it to another stack where the bell is found.
-50, 81, 0: A
Bell is hidden at the top of the landing zone, accessible from an ice spike by the entrance to the Icy biome.
Each bell corresponds to a specific color in the rainbow. Completing the rainbow and returning to the landing zone yields the following dialogue from
"Hunter" Tobias:
Finally, a cutscene plays as the player walks into the landing zone. As the player looks at the rainbow, the following dialogue plays:
You know, there are so many memories in a rainbow.
I remember seeing one while playing with all my friends, back when we were very small.
The next time I saw one was many years later, after one of them died.
Sometimes it feels like, every time I see one, there are less of my kind left to see it with me.
But it's still oddly comforting.
Before I was here, there were rainbows.
After I am gone, there will still be rainbows.
Throughout my short life, everything I once knew has changed beyond recognition.
As for the rainbows, I don't think they notice the difference.
With each dialogue, the player's Miracle Chance attribute gains +1 level, maxing out upon the cutscene ending. Players also receive The Miracle in a sunbeam secret achievement.
During this cutscene, a custom song plays:

Tips
[edit | edit source]- In a party, allocating 1 zone to each player is an efficient way to complete the session, where the Hotspots would be a good reference.
- Alternatively, two players overlapping the Cavern biome, one handling the upper part and one handling the lower part, could help clear the biome faster. As this biome is by far the longest biome to clear, this may allow a full-clear to be completed faster.
- In the Safari Essence shop, Morning Dew and Critter Master are the most important upgrades to obtain.
- The
Morning Dew grants the
Safari Belt 50 Speed while in the Critter Safari, allowing for faster clears, along a handful of stats that are useful within it. It is also currently the only Equipment Reforge that boosts
Hunting stats. - The
Masterful Critter Capsule has a 100% capture rate. It is best used on the
Doomspiral,
Wumpa, and, if it spawns,
Macaw, which would allow up to 20 capsules to be saved.
- Players may also wish to use it on a Rare or EPIC Sparkling critter if they do not need to capture any of the above ︎ Critters (such as if they are clearing the Cavern biome) or are running low on capsules.
- The
- Sparkling critters that do not use vanilla textures (such as
Shyworm) have custom textures when they spawn that differ from their normal texture. This can be used to determine if critters such as
Troodon and
Hideyho are Sparkling before interacting with them, as they do not have nametags before being interacted with. - Never run safari solo. Even just running with two players allows the safari to be cleared twice as fast, and almost everything is lootshared excluding
Emerald Dye and regular Critterdex entries. Usually getting a party of 3 or 4 is a good idea. - Usually it is better to spend a bit of downtime between runs to get UNCOMMON on Miria's Contest whenever there is a new contest to secure more safari tickets for more runs.
- Always use a First-Class ticket unless you are hunting for only Sparkling critters. The additional safari essence will most likely outweigh the cost in upgrading tickets, and the additional Hunting Wisdom is also nice to have.
Notes
[edit | edit source]- Bestiary progress,
Safari Belt Milestones progress, Attribute Shard drops and Sparkling Critterdex entries are shared with everyone in a party — effectively everything except loot obtained from Floor Drops, trading with NPCs and unlocking entries for regular Critterdex. [More Info Needed]
- While Attribute Shard drops are shared, every player's Hunting Fortune is counted for them individually.
Trivia
[edit | edit source]- The release of the Critter Safari marks the first time since SkyBlock's release where more than one island has been released in one update.
