Gunpowder can be obtained from  Creeper Minions.

Gunpowder can be purchased from the Combat Merchant in the Hub Island for 10 Coins each.

Gunpowder can be used when Brewing to create splash Potions but at half the duration.

• While not a cheap, or easy to obtain weapon, the Flower of Truth is a very viable weapon for farming Sneaky Creepers, when the player first starts the Gunpowder collection. A cheaper way is to use an Artisanal Shortbow. The bow doesn't need any special enchants.
  • This is because the only way to farm them, without a minion, is in the Gunpowder Mines, where they are invisible until they are next to the player.
  • The Flower of Truth seeks onto them, even when the player cannot see them, killing them and ricocheting to other creepers.
• One way of getting gunpowder is following someone else around the Gunpowder Mines and killing creepers that spawn behind them.

• The internal item ID of this item is SULPHUR. There is an actual item called  Sulphur with the ID SULPHUR_ORE.
• For a few weeks after the release of the Crimson Isle Update, the tooltip for Gunpowder had the quote "Give me some Sulphur and I'll make a wand. Give me all the Sulphur and I'll conquer the world." - Unnamed Mage. The message was later moved to the tooltip for  Sulphur.
