Splitter Spider

The Splitter Spider is a Spider that splits into two Silverfish upon death. They spawn in the Spider's Den.

Splitter Spiders spawn in the  Spider Mound and  Arachne's Burrow sections of the  Spider's Den.

Behavior

Splitter Spiders will stand still until a player is nearby. They will jump towards the player and deal Damage on contact. Upon death, they will spawn 2 Silverfish.

Strategy

Using the Golem Sword to kill the spider and then using its ability to kill the silverfish once they spawn from its corpse will make the Silverfish much easier to kill.
Despite their relatively low Health, being knocked off an edge by the sudden extra silverfish spawns on their death can be a death sentence for new players. Consider using the Slime Hat for anti-knockback if they are giving you too much trouble.
Using an Intimidation Talisman will help so that the silverfish won't attack you after they spawn. This does not work for the higher-level Splitter Spiders that spawn in the secondary cave (where Arachne's Keepers spawn), as despite only having 50 health, the Silverfish that spawn there are Level 42.
The Flower of Truth's ability, if aimed at a Splitter Spider, can kill the two resulting silverfish instantly.

Trivia

Upon killing a Splitter Spider, the screen will display an 'Armor Stand' tag for a 1-2 frames before disappearing. This is merely a glitch and doesn't affect the player or the resulting Silverfish spawns.
