Dean

Dean is an NPC found in the  Cathedral on the  Crimson Isle and one of the main NPCs in the Mage Faction Questline.

Quest

Dean first appears in the Mage Faction Questline after Elle tasks the player with giving them an Maddox Batphone. In return, he grants the Letter of Recommendation, which can be given to Queen Nyx to join the Mage Faction.

Not much further into the quest, the player is tasked with calling Dean on an Abiphone, after which he instructs the player to meet him and several other NPCs in the  Mage Council. There, they discuss stolen research, which the player must retrieve from inside  The Bastion.

After retrieving the research, Dean asks the player to find his lost Apprentice, who is located just north of the  Burning Desert. Upon finding him, he then asks the player to bring him 10 Magma Chunks and 5 Burning Eyes, which the Apprentice was originally supposed to bring him.

Dean then uses these resources for his work, and in the meanwhile, tasks the player with completing quests for Odexar and Igrupan. After this, Dean then asks for 1 Hallowed Skull, 1 Lumino Fiber and 1 Leather Cloth. After providing these, the player is tasked with speaking to Captain Ahone, which leads to the player having to defeat Kuudra. Once this occurs, speaking to Dean again will complete the main questline.

[NPC] Dean: Hopefully the Queen will grant you access to some parts of the city. [NPC] Dean: Once that's done, go visit my cousin Udel in his shop in the plaza. [NPC] Dean: I'll let him know you are coming and he'll make you a price for your own Abiphone.

Calling with an Abiphone after acquiring the stolen research		[NPC] Dean: ✆ Oh <player> is that you again? [NPC] Dean: ✆ I am still really stressed out about the long research. [NPC] Dean: ✆ It's a long story but in short, we believe the Piglins stole it, it's a real problem. [NPC] Dean: ✆ What did you just say? You recovered it? And they didn't even see you? [NPC] Dean: ✆ I can't believe it, you are truly a hero! I'm currently near the Community Center, please come here and bring the research back.
During the  Mage Council meeting		[NPC] Dean: Oh, <player> is here! They're the one who retrieved the research! [NPC] Queen Nyx: I see, we owe you adventurer, this object is of great value to us. [NPC] Dean: Yes indeed! With it we are able to extract salt from Netherrack, it will be a massive asset when cooking. [NPC] Dean: You see, while we evolved past the need for crops and cattle, the quality of our food remains low. [NPC] Dean: I would say close to 50% of our research is still spent on food artifacts and machines. [NPC] Captain Ahone: And once again those Piglins stole our research. [NPC] Captain Ahone: They believe we are working on war engines. [NPC] Captain Ahone: The tension is rising and soon we might have to cross swords with them. [NPC] Queen Nyx: Captain Ahone, this isn't a conversation we should have right now. [NPC] Queen Nyx: Thank you very much, <player>. Would you mind leaving us now, we have matters to discuss. Back in the  Cathedral, after the meeting		[NPC] Dean: I can't thank you enough, what you did was heroic! [NPC] Dean: You are probably aware but we used to be Pig farmers but Sulphur turned our pigs into Piglins. [NPC] Dean: For decades we had to survive with almost nothing to eat, until we learned magic. [NPC] Dean: Piglins can eat nether warts, but we certainly can't! [NPC] Dean: Anyways, if you want to learn more about that, there are books in the Academy regarding the Dark Ages. [NPC] Dean: I am trying to finish my work on this machine but my Apprentice is missing. [NPC] Dean: He is out there in the wild looking for precious ingredients and he should have been back a long time ago. [NPC] Dean: Their Abiphone doesn't seem to be working, I am starting to get worried. [NPC] Dean: Would you be so kind to look for them, they are probably North of that Red Sand Desert.

[NPC] Dean: Those ones are going to be tougher to obtain though. [NPC] Dean: You will have to defeat mighty opponents. [NPC] Dean: The first ingredient I need is a Hallowed Skull, which is obtained from a Bladesoul. [NPC] Dean: This creature can be found inside the Stronghold, south of the island.

	Random	[NPC] Dean: The Stronghold was built by Blazes and Wither Skeletons, they are still expanding it slowly, quite fascinating.
Giving a Hallowed Skull		[NPC] Dean: A Hallowed Skull! Splendid! [NPC] Dean: I need a couple more components, the next one is a Lumino Fiber. [NPC] Dean: Only the strongest of Blazes can create those, and there is a terrifying Blaze in the North West. [NPC] Dean: If you can defeat them, I'm sure you'll obtain a Lumino Fiber.
Before giving a Lumino Fiber (Can appear as Abiphone dialogue)	Random	[NPC] Dean: The reason why I need a Lumino Fiber? Well...it's hard to explain.
	Random	[NPC] Dean: I have reasons to believe there is a lot of Sulphur in the North, it would explain the appearance of those Blaze species.
Giving a Lumino Fiber		[NPC] Dean: Thanks! I almost have all the components I need now. [NPC] Dean: The last one is a Leather Cloth, and not just any kind. [NPC] Dean: There is a rogue Barbarian going by the name of Duke X. [NPC] Dean: He owns all the Leather Cloth on the island, find him and you'll find the items.
Before giving a Leather Cloth	Random	[NPC] Dean: Piglins can grow incredibly strong if they consume large amounts of Sulphur, but they lose their sanity in the process.
Before giving a Leather Cloth	Random	[NPC] Dean: Last I heard, they are located near the Barbarian Faction.
Giving a Leather Cloth		[NPC] Dean: I knew I could count on you. [NPC] Dean: This strong Cloth will be able to contain the skull and the lumino fibers together. [NPC] Dean: In theory this should help refining Sulphur, if I can get it to work. [NPC] Dean: Would you mind talking to Captain Ahone? [NPC] Dean: Please tell him I need a full backpack worth of Sulphur.

[NPC] Dean: In a way it is good that the Piglins were not behind this. [NPC] Dean: We need to learn more about that monster, where it is from and what it wants. [NPC] Dean: I will call you later!
