An Earthworm can also be Charmed or Hunted with a Lasso to obtain a  Earthworm Shard and +150  Hunting XP. The amount of Attribute Shards dropped is affected by  Hunting Fortune.

Earthworm slowly move around, burrowing to another location within the same plot after reaching 66.6%  Health and 33.3%  Health. This can be reduced to one time or bypassed entirely by dealing enough damage. Earthworm can only be damaged with Vacuums or Lassos.
