Tips

The Zombie Pet is mostly unviable outside dungeons. Although this pet is cheap even at LEGENDARY, it is severely outclassed by many other pets such as Ankylosaurus Pet, Tiger Pet, or even the Ghoul Pet as the additional Combat XP is more useful for progression and the bonuses to Vitality can increase survivability for more consistent Revenant Horror kills.
- Keeping the pet at EPIC is often better for the explicit usage of outside dungeons, as it would take less XP to level up and the lack of relevant Undead armor outside dungeons. Only upgrade if you intend to use the Revived Heart or Reaper Mask to compensate for being underlevelled and having insufficient Effective Health.
Inside dungeons, the pet is oftentimes a great pick for early floors. Most mobs in the Catacombs are  Undead, and many of the other cheap combat pets are far less useful inside dungeons due to its unique environment. As most dungeons armor before dungeonised Unstable Dragon Armor or Adaptive Armor are Undead items, they all receive a significant buff from this pet.
- Note that past Floor 4 it is recommended to use a more defensive pet such as Turtle Pet for more survivability or a utility pet such as Horse or Skeleton Horse Pet for extra mobility, as damage is rarely the bottleneck and the bonuses provided by this pet is not as significant past early floors.
- Archers should use the Skeleton Pet instead of Zombie due to its buffs to arrows.
In both scenarios, the Wither Skeleton Pet can be a cheaper alternative as it is far easier to level up a Mining pet than a Combat pet. It also provides sufficient value even in Floor 7, as well as the damage over time effect often providing greater DPS against Revenant Horror bosses. It does not affect Tier V bosses, but by the time you challenge them you should be using a better pet instead, such as the aforementioned Ankylosaurus Pet.

Trivia

The Undead reforge does not classify an armor piece as "Undead", and therefore will not cause the stats of the armor to be increased by the Zombie Pet.
The third ability of the Zombie Pet used to only buff Defense on the armor pieces.
This used to be one of the worst pets in the game, as it was unlocked far later in the game and costed 8 Zombie's Hearts to craft, with LEGENDARY not being guaranteed due to old pet crafting mechanics. Its perks were also far worse than its present perks.
