Midas Staff

The Midas Staff is a LEGENDARY Sword that can be obtained from the Dark Auction. Its ability increases in power as more coins are spent on it by the player, similar to the Midas' Sword, up to 100M Coins.

Obtaining

Dark Auction

The Midas Staff can be obtained from the Dark Auction only when Scorpius is elected as mayor, costing a minimum of 100k Coins to purchase. It will always appear as the eighth and final item for sale.

Its ability casts a wave of gold blocks in front of the player, similar to the Tank class ability Seismic Wave. All enemies caught within the wave take the full ability damage. The wave has a length of 14 blocks and stops upon impact with walls and carpets. The ability has a 1-second cooldown and costs 500 Mana to use.

Its ability damage is increased as the coins spent on the Midas Staff increases, up to a maximum of 26,000 bonus base damage at 100M Coins, or 32,000 ability damage in total. A Golden Dragon Pet also buffs the ability by up to 10%.

Upgrading

The Midas Staff can be upgraded to the  Midas Staff with 8 Golden Fragments, allowing the price paid to be increased to 500,000,000 Coins paid.

This weapon can be upgraded using Gold Essence. Once converted, it requires Catacombs XXV (25) to use while in Dungeons.

Trivia

The Molten Wave ability gold blocks do not visually appear on non-full blocks, notably carpets. This is a visual bug however, as it still deals damage as if the wave is rendered.
The Molten Wave ability gold blocks blocks the Bonemerang projectiles.
- It used to block other projectiles, most notably arrows. This makes the Midas Staff less likely to be used in higher floors as archers usually deal much more damage than mages. This was fixed in August 8 2023 Patch Notes.
The Molten Wave ability gold blocks can get stuck within cobwebs.^[1]
The wave cannot hit enemies too close to the player, about 1 block away.
The Greed ability's bonus ability damage used to be bugged, which meant that the bonus ability damage was not boosted by Catacombs level in dungeons even if the staff was dungeonized. This was fixed in the 0.14 Bug Fixes 2 Update.^[2]
This item is referred to as "Midas' Staff" in the Dark Auction, however the actual item name is "Midas Staff".
The Midas Staff is also called the "Midas Spoon" or the "Spoon" by the community.
- The name "Midas Spoon" possibly stems from the fact that the vanilla Midas Staff texture used to be a golden shovel.
This weapon at 100,000,000 Coins paid has the second highest base magic damage of any weapon after Giant's Sword.
The ability is used by King Midas in Dungeons, who was released 3 months prior to this item.
