Upcoming nerfs to Strength Stat & Aiming Enchant

Updated: May 26, 2021

Hello!

In the next SkyBlock update, we will be applying nerfs to two game components which have been in the game since its inception.

  • Strength will no longer provide 20% of its value as base weapon damage.

The (simplified) damage formula is currently as follows:

damage=(5+weapon damage+strength/5)×(1+strength/100)× (1+crit damage/100)×(1+additive multiplier/100)

It will become:

damage=(5+weapon damage)×(1+strength/100)×(1+crit damage/100)× (1+additive multiplier/100)

The current damage function currently has 2 problems in our opinion:

  1. Its multiplicative nature leads to a very large difference between low/midgame players and top-end players. This makes it challenging to create new combat content for a vast range of players.
  2. The strength conversion + multiplicative features makes it hard for players to gauge which weapon is stronger when looking at two weapons. It's also hard and delicate to tune your stats composition to deal the most damage.

Removing the "strength / 5" will help with both those points. It's not a silver bullet and it will nerf player damage for endgame players, but we think it's a necessary step in the right direction to have a better game for everyone.

  • Aiming becomes Dragon Tracer and only works on dragons.

We believe Aiming has been toxic for the game for at least 2 reasons:

  1. Players can basically kill every single monsters in area constantly, at the expense of other players
  2. It trivializes the point of ranged combat across the game, aka... you don't need to aim anymore

Everyone who had Aiming on their bows will have it converted to Dragon Tracer automatically. We're using this lull in the meta where Bonemerang is the top non-mana ranged weapon to transition this enchant out of the game.

By the way, here's an upcoming bow:

Easier to acquire than Bonemerang!

Thank you for your comprehension!
