[January 30] Hub Revamp Alpha

Hello!

Today we have an Alpha testing session for SkyBlock that aims to test our revamped Hub world, SkyBlock in latest Minecraft versions, and a Museum Restructure. Please note that the minimum version for joining this alpha is 1.21.9.

These are both pretty major changes, so feel free to read more below!

Hub Revamp & SkyBlock in 1.21.9+

The Hub has moved to latest version and now has an entirely new look! As we mentioned towards the end of last year, we are looking to move SkyBlock to the latest versions of Minecraft throughout 2026. The Hub Revamp plays a key part in facilitating this and allowing us to utilize latest-version features all throughout the game, both on new and existing islands.

Moving the Hub to the latest version of the game is an important first step in our plans for SkyBlock in 2026. In order to best utilize latest features across the entirety of SkyBlock, we need to enforce all players joining with a minimum Minecraft version as soon as possible. This allows us to focus our development efforts solely on a much smaller subset of MC versions instead of attempting to continue supporting 1.8.9 and 1.21+ worlds and features simultaneously.

Over the coming months, we plan to release content in SkyBlock that takes advantage of the new blocks, mobs, and features offered in latest Minecraft versions. Additionally, existing islands will gradually be upgraded to take advantage of these features!

Museum Restructure

As part of this update we have also reorganized the museum, creating several new categories and adding a number of new items. You can find an exhaustive list of the new museum's various sections below:

  • Combat
  • Dungeoneering
  • Farming
  • Fishing
  • Foraging
  • Hunting
  • Mining
  • Misc.

This new categorization of the museum should be far more intuitive when browsing for both old and new players alike - let us know what you think of it!

Latest Islands Testing

For this Alpha session, we are testing all of the islands listed below in latest worlds. It is important to note that we may NOT release 1 or more of the listed islands due to performance issues, gameplay concerns, or any other unforeseen circumstances.

  • Hub
  • Spider's Den
  • The End
  • Gold Mine
  • Farming Islands

The Hub is our primary focus of this testing session due to the substantial changes to its looks and gameplay. Other islands only contain visual upgrades, for now. Islands not listed remain unchanged in this initial phase but will be upgraded to use latest blocks and features over the coming months!
